Locking down  Windows 7 wireless to only allow connection to APs that are secured with WPA2
Is there any software available that will allow the enforcement of secure-only (WPA2) AP connections (no open non-secure APs) for our client systems running Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate? We would like to provide the user's with wireless capabilities on there laptops, but enforcing wireless usage via written policies does not provide a "warm and fuzzy" as users are roaming through hotels and airports, etc. Thanks in advance.

Hi, If 802.1X is already deployed for wired LAN authentication, use WPA2 to ensure wireless data confidentiality and integrity. Use WPA. 802.1X is recommended with WPA/WPA2 because it provides a mechanism for automatic key distribution in addition to providing support for user authentication. If 802.1X is not already deployed for wired LAN authentication, use IPsec or SSL (if supported by enterprise applications) to ensure wireless data confidentiality and integrity. An acceptable alternative to using 802.1X, IPsec or SSL. Also, as this issue is more related with network access protection, in order to get the answer effectively, it is recommended to submit a new question in Network Access Protection Forum. The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Sabrina, Thanks for response. However, this is not what I was inquiring. I understand how to lock down wireless on an enterprise network. The issue I'm trying to resolve is how can I lock down the wireless connectivity on our staff systems (laptops) to non-secure corporate APs. I would like to permit wireless on the systems...but only to those networks that are configured with some form of security (WPA2 preferred). When my staff is travelling, I do not want them to accidently or purposesly connect to an OPEN (non-scecured) AP such as those at airports or hotels, etc. All clients are running W7 Pro and/or Ultimate. All of our systems do have built-in aircards that are active and are currently being used by each user to mitigate this security risk. I can provide more information as needed.
